Language and Literature

Studying English Language and Literature at Oasis Academy Brislington intends to provide students with opportunities to gain knowledge of and to engage with the “best of what has been thought and said”. We adhere to the OCL curriculum in terms of the diverse range of texts and learning journeys, whilst also recognising the need to make adaptations for the specific context of our young people so that everyone is able to experience success and belonging in their lessons.

In order to do this successfully, every lesson needs rigour, precision and soul. Therefore, in every English lesson you can expect to see precise instruction, versatile vocabulary and responsive teaching, delivered by expert, passionate professionals. Our curriculum focuses on challenging texts and powerful questions and is designed to foster a sense of curiosity and an appreciation that to read the widest possible range of texts, and create your own, opens minds and leads people to be better human beings.
