Additional English

Additional English provides targeted, supportive literacy teaching designed to strengthen students’ confidence and competence in reading, writing, vocabulary, and communication. These lessons, tailored to each individual class, are structured to build core skills through a consistent, engaging routine that helps students make clear and sustained progress.  

Students take part in a variety of literacybuilding activities that support their reading, writing, and vocabulary development. These may include shared reading of accessible texts, discussion to aid understanding, and tasks that strengthen comprehension and confidence with new vocabulary. Many lessons also offer opportunities for creative or descriptive writing, alongside handwriting or spelling practice to support accuracy and fluency. Vocabulary is revisited and reinforced regularly to help students apply key words with increasing confidence.  

Overall, the aim of Additional English is to nurture capable, enthusiastic readers and writers by providing a calm, supportive environment where skills are broken down and reinforced, and success is celebrated.
