Travel & Tourism
The Pearson BTEC Level 1/Level 2 Tech Award in Travel and Tourism will equip students with a detailed knowledge and understanding of the travel and tourism industry whilst instilling both a passion for travel and working with people. We want our students to feel empowered to pursue the fantastic career opportunities within the travel and tourism industry, from leading marketing campaigns to travelling the world as cabin crew!
In addition to developing the character of our students, we want our students to have the competence to succeed in travel and tourism. In Component 1, students will develop a detailed knowledge of travel and tourism industries in the UK, whilst developing an appreciation of the complex interconnections within the tourism industry. In Component 2, students will apply their knowledge of the travel and tourism industry and use their market research skills to produce a travel plan, which will demonstrate a detailed understanding of a customer’s travel needs. Component 3 will then examine the factors that may influence global travel and tourism which will give students the knowledge and understanding needed to respond to a rapidly evolving, global industry. Not only do we want our students to have the character and competence necessary to succeed in travel and tourism, but we also want our students to be considerate and compassionate, with a strong understanding of how decisions made by travel and tourism organisations, as well as tourists and visitors, can impact the local, national and global community.

Character
- The fundamental aim of the curriculum is to instill a passion for travel among students and develop the skills needed to work within an ever-changing, global industry. We want students to develop a sense of compassion through understanding that peoples’ needs and interests are different and also a sense of hope that they will be successful in pursuing careers within the travel and tourism sector.
- The curriculum will equip students with the qualities and skills needed to succeed in travel and tourism, including the ability to think commercially, whilst drawing on evidence and research to make personalised and informed customer decisions.
- Students will have the opportunity to make more informed decisions, not only within professional roles within the sector, but as consumers, for example when booking a holiday and when travelling for business or leisure.
