Home Learning

Rationale & Principles

At Oasis Academy Brislington we are working to develop students' ability to work independently and to be successful at anything they apply themselves to in their lives. We know that obtaining good grades at GCSE will open doors in the future for them, and we believe that having regular learning to complete at home eventually improves student outcomes in school. However, we also know that improving grades is not the only way that Home Learning can benefit our students. The Home Learning Projects that students are set in years seven to nine are helping them to develop independence, curiosity, and giving students an opportunity to study beyond the in-class curriculum which will help them to stand as first amongst equals, in their lives, moving forward.

How much and how often is Homework set?

  • Years 7, 8 & 9: One Independent Learning Project, set at the beginning of each term and collected in during the penultimate week of term.
  • Years 10 & 11: Weekly Home Learning for each student, which may be set as separate tasks, or an over-arching project.

What does Homework look like?

Most Home Learning assignments will utilise online learning platforms, however some subjects may set paper-based projects as well. This document outlines the way that subjects set, collect in and feed back to students on Home Learning. In nearly every subject, the assignments will be set on Teams to give students their due date and may direct them to a different platform. If a student has a question or issues logging on to access online learning, please contact the school by email at or call 0117 377 2055. Home Learning in English, in years 7-9 will always be Reading Plus.

The online learning platforms your child may need to access are:

Every time a Home Learning Project is submitted, students receive BCPs in that subject. Students who complete their Home Learning Projects are eligible to be nominated by their teachers for exceptional projects. These projects are then shared with the staff body and students can receive on-the-spot voucher prizes. Individual subject areas also have a variety of recognition schemes and home learning prizes.

Non-Completion of Homework

Each time a student does not complete a piece of homework, the class teacher logs it. These logs will be tracked by the Academy Leadership Team. If a student misses two or more projects across a term, they will be assigned a Home Learning Reflection the following term, which runs from 3.10pm to 4.10pm in Room 1B8.
