8 Weeks into the New Academic Year

8 Weeks into the New Academic Year

It is remarkable that we have been back for 8 weeks already; it seems only yesterday that we were welcoming the new students in Year 7 as well as celebrating the achievements of students from the previous year.

It is remarkable that we have been back for 8 weeks already; it seems only yesterday that we were welcoming the new students in Year 7 as well as celebrating the achievements of students from the previous year. As you might have seen the recently published DfE tables (www.gov.uk/school-performance-tables) show that Oasis Academy Brislington students made more progress than in many other local schools as well as other nearby schools in South Gloucester and North Somerset.

I have been very pleased with the overall attitude and approach of students to learning so far. It is great to see the number of reflections decrease, more students remembering to hand homework in and more and more Brislington Charter Points being awarded for working hard. Our students where a real credit to the Academy, themselves and you as parents/carers during our recent open events which we hosted for Year 6 children. I have received many positive comments both electronically and verbally, one such comment spoke for them all:

Dear Mr Knight, Many thanks for welcoming me and my daughter to your open evening last night. My daughter had a great time. I just wanted to take the opportunity to commend you on our two fantastic guides (and hope that you are able to pass this on to them). Both students were, as expected friendly and helpful.’ - Prospective Parent/Carer

Travelling to and from the Academy

As I am sure you are all aware British Summer Time finishes on 28th October 2018, the evenings becoming darker as we move into the winter months. Can I ask you as parents/carers to reinforce the message to your children about staying safe whether it is ensuring that they don’t walk to school by themselves or making sure that their bike lights/helmets are in good working order. If your child does find themselves with any worries about getting home at the end of the extended school day (after Period 6 or a reflection session) could you remind them to find a member of staff and ask them for help.
