OAB has broken its own bursary record for a second year running. In this unique scheme, the school communicates to its Year 11 pupils how to apply for bursaried-entry to Bristol’s seven independent schools and then provides bespoke support for them to do so successfully.
OAB has broken its own bursary record for a second year running. In this unique scheme, the school communicates to its Year 11 pupils how to apply for bursaried-entry to Bristol’s seven independent schools and then provides bespoke support for them to do so successfully.
All fourteen pupils who applied won (at least) one place, although, due to the increasing pressures on independent schools, only seven of these offers were generous enough to be financially viable. Nonetheless, seven viable offers still broke last year’s record and the following pupils have successfully won places: Neve White at Bristol Grammar School, Yasheika Lewis at Clifton College, Charlotte Brooke at Redmaid’s High School and Amy Bessex & Milo Boczon at Queen Elizabeth Hospital. While Charlotte Brook is the first OAB pupil ever to win a place at RHS, the others will enter schools where previous OAB alumni have attended or are still attending, smoothing their transition process and helping them to gain the most from this unique opportunity.
Our coordinated success has attracted the attention of schools and organisations from across Bristol. Therefore, in collaboration with local charity and educational groups, we shall run a Bursary Information Evening for all Year 10 pupils in Bristol on 18th June at Origin Workspace, 40 Berkeley Square, Bristol. This will draw together all seven of Bristol’s independent schools in a ‘careers fair’ style format, where pupils can learn about bursaried-access to these schools and speak to representatives of each. More details will be sent out in a letter at the start of Term 6.
